This was the first wood & watercolor piece I've left. I left it at a bank in Round Rock, but I put the art-side down, label-side up so that people wouldn't assume it was a coaster.

We went to dinner last night and I left this card for the waitperson. The interesting thing about leaving art is that I've become much more aware of what's going on around me. I "look" more now, always in search of ideal spots to leave an art card, or eyeing people to try to figure out which card they might like. I feel more in tune with the people and places around me.

Watercolor Gecko

I left this one this morning on a table at the Starbucks in Round Rock. It's one of my favorites. The Gecko is watercolor, the background acrylic. On the back of the card is hand-painted paper; the dragonfly is punched from paper I crackled.

"Handed" Art

I gave one to a roller-skating carhop. She thought I had handed it to her, with her tip, by accident. Nope, that's for you! I somehow managed not to get a picture of it, unfortunately :-(

We were out at Lake Livingston this past weekend, so I left this one on the table of a little hamburger place where we had dinner. It's one of my favorites.

And handed this one to a woman in a drive-through; she said "thank you," looked at the card, looked at me, seemed slightly puzzled . . . I drove away smiling.

Found Art

I heard about these intriguing things called "Artist's Trading Cards," so of course I googled them. I found plenty of information about ATCs, but I also ran across a site called FoundArt.org.

The Found Art website describes its mission as "A global art project using art to heal the world." Pretty ambitious, but definitely an idea that I can work with. I loved the idea of creating little pieces of art and sending them out into the world. Do they make people happy? Do they heal? Do they inspire? Who knows for sure?

What I do know is that it makes me happy to create them, and I hope that a little of that joyful atmosphere through which they are born travels with them on all their journeys.

The above card, btw, was left on 8/01 on a table at Bear Rock Cafe in N. Austin.
